Core services Personalized nutrition plans: Create customized meal plans and dietary guidelines based on an individual's genetic predispositions and health goals. Genetic data interpretation: Analyze raw genetic data, often from services like 23andMe, to identify specific traits related to nutrient needs, food sensitivities, and other health factors. Targeted supplement and lifestyle recommendations: Recommend specific supplements and lifestyle changes, such as exercise and stress management, that are informed by genetic insights. Root cause analysis: Help clients uncover the underlying causes of their health symptoms by examining their genetic makeup alongside their diet, environment, and lifestyle. Education and empowerment: Educate clients on how their genetics impact their health and empower them to make sustainable, informed choices. Accountability and support: Provide motivation and accountability to help clients implement and maintain new habits and achieve their health goals. Examples of specific applications Metabolism and weight management: Help clients understand genetic factors that affect their metabolism to create more effective weight management plans. Gut health: Develop personalized gut-health strategies by understanding genetic interactions with the gut microbiome. Mental wellness: Create tailored support strategies for mental well-being by examining how genes influence stress resilience and mood. Detoxification: Design personalized detox strategies based on genetic profiles related to the body's detoxification pathways. How do I bridge the gap you may ask? Simple. Neuroscience, functional genomics, and holistic health converge to create a powerful, personalized framework for understanding and improving brain health by integrating genetic insights with whole-body wellness strategies. Here's how these disciplines intersect and reinforce each other: 🧠 Neuroscience: Mapping Brain Function and Behavior -Focuses on the structure and function of the nervous system, including how neurons communicate, how brain regions interact, and how behavior emerges from neural activity. -Provides the clinical and cognitive context for understanding neurological disorders, mental health conditions, and brain resilience. 🧬Functional Genomics: Decoding the Genetic Blueprint -Investigates how genes and their regulatory elements influence brain development, function, and disease. -Uses tools like transcriptomics, epigenomics, and CRISPR to explore gene expression patterns in brain cells, linking genetic variants to psychiatric and neurological conditions. -Enables precision medicine by identifying individual genetic risk factors and tailoring interventions accordingly. 🌿 Holistic Health: Integrating Mind, Body, and Environment -Emphasizes the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors in shaping brain health. -Includes practices like nutrition, sleep hygiene, stress management, physical activity, and social connection. -Recognizes that genetic predispositions interact with lifestyle and environmental exposures, influencing outcomes like cognition, mood, and neurodegeneration. 🔗 Points of Convergence ⊙Systems neuroscience and integrative biology bridge molecular data with behavioral and environmental context, allowing researchers to model complex brain-body interactions. {Initiatives like PsychENCODE and the BRAIN Initiative integrate genomic data with neuroimaging, behavioral assessments, and lifestyle metrics to build comprehensive brain health profiles. ⊙Functional neurology applies these insights in clinical settings, offering non-invasive, personalized therapies that target neurological imbalances through both genetic and lifestyle interventions. 🧪 Testing and Applications ~Multi-omics profiling (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics) combined with neuroimaging and behavioral testing helps identify biomarkers for brain health. ~Personalized wellness plans based on genetic predispositions and lifestyle factors are being developed to prevent or manage conditions like depression, ADHD, Alzheimer’s, and anxiety. ~Clinical trials and longitudinal studies are exploring how integrative approaches improve outcomes in brain injury recovery, cognitive aging, and mental health. This interdisciplinary fusion is transforming brain health from a reactive, symptom-based model to a proactive, personalized, and holistic paradigm. If you're curious, I can walk you through how this might apply to a specific condition or wellness goal. Some specific test that may be needed are: Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA Test), is one of the most insightful foundational tests we use to understand how the body is functioning beneath the surface. Functional blood labs give us a snapshot of how the body is functioning in real time, helping practitioners see both patterns of imbalance and early signs of stress long before pathology develops. The DUTCH+ test offers one of the most complete views of hormone health available, combining both urine and saliva samples to measure not only hormone levels but also how they’re being metabolized and cleared from the body. The GI-MAP test is a DNA-based stool analysis that provides a detailed look at the gut microbiome — the ecosystem of bacteria, yeast, parasites, and viruses that influence digestion, immunity, and even mental health. The Organic Acids Test, or OAT, is a urine-based assessment that measures metabolic byproducts—known as organic acids—to reveal how well the body is functioning at a cellular level. The MycoTox profile is a urine-based test that detects mycotoxins — the toxic compounds produced by certain species of mold. These toxins can accumulate in the body and disrupt immune, neurological, and hormonal function, often leading to symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, sinus congestion, anxiety, and chemical sensitivity. Healing Mind and spirit
My work as a counselor begins with one simple belief: human beings are far more complicated, resilient, and worthy of understanding than most of the world allows them to be. I bring a unique multidisciplinary background to the therapeutic process, combining extensive experience in psychology, counseling, human services, behavioral health, substance abuse counseling, crisis intervention, and years spent working directly with individuals navigating some of life’s most difficult personal battles. My professional journey has allowed me to work with people from radically different backgrounds, helping me understand that pain does not discriminate, and healing rarely follows a straight line. I specialize in helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, identity struggles, relationship conflict, life transitions, stress management, and the internal battles that often remain invisible to everyone else. I believe many people spend years surviving while never fully understanding the patterns, beliefs, experiences, and wounds quietly shaping their lives beneath the surface. My therapeutic philosophy is both compassionate and practical. I do not believe in simply managing symptoms while ignoring root causes. Real healing requires honesty, self-examination, accountability, and the willingness to confront the deeper internal narratives that influence how we think, behave, relate to others, and ultimately understand ourselves. Throughout my career, I have learned that healing is not weakness. Asking for help is not failure. Often the strongest people are the ones carrying the heaviest burdens in silence. My role is not to judge or prescribe who you should become. My role is to provide a safe, intellectually grounded, emotionally supportive space where insight leads to growth, clarity replaces confusion, and meaningful transformation becomes possible. Every person has a story. Every struggle has context. Every life deserves the opportunity to heal. Sometimes the most courageous thing a person can do is decide that surviving is no longer enough. I look forward to walking alongside you in the work of becoming whole. Dr. Darrell McClain
